Arran man jailed for historic sex offences spanning more that twenty years
A 55 year old man has been jailed after being found guilty of sexually abusing three young girls.
At Kilmarnock Sheriff Court, Duncan Mulholland was sentenced to three and a half years imprisonment and placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for abusing the girls who were aged between 7 and 15 .The offences were carried out between April 1987 and September 2008
Athough the abuse began nearly 30 years ago it only came to light in 2015 when one of the victims spoke to her mother about the ordeal she had endured as a child. This led to the abuse of the other victims coming to light.
Speaking following sentencing today, Laura McPherson, procurator fiscal for North Strathclyde, said: “Thanks to the incredible bravery of his victims in coming forward to report what happened to them, it has been possible for us to bring Duncan Mulholland to face the full force of the law for his crimes.
“I would urge any victims of sexual crimes, even ones which occurred decades ago, to come forward and report them. They will be treated with the utmost professionalism and sensitivity by the police, our expert prosecutors around the country and in our National Sexual Crimes Unit, and we will do all we can to deliver justice.”
