Baublefest aims high to support new legal talent
The Lawscot Foundation is aiming higher than ever to support talented law students from less-advantaged backgrounds with its annual Christmas campaign, Baublefest.
The foundation has increased its target for the festive fundraiser to £7,500, topping last year’s record of £5,500. The new target will see three students receive a year’s worth of funding for their legal studies.
Donors can purchase a bauble for the Baublefest tree in the Law Society of Scotland’s Edinburgh office, as well as inviting friends, families and colleagues to fill the virtual tree in time for it to light up for the holidays.
The Christmas campaign got off to a festive start with Denovo, Amiqus, Lawware and The Cashroom sponsoring the annual fundraiser with donations of £500 each.
Ally Thomson, chair of the Lawscot Foundation’s Fundraising Committee, said: “It seemed right this year that we mark the Law Society’s 75th anniversary with a record high fundraising goal so we can help, in some small way, to shape the next 75 years of the profession.
“Baublefest is a landmark fundraising event in our calendar and makes such a difference in our mission to support students from less advantaged backgrounds. There is no better gift for our prospective students than supporting them through their legal education.”
Law Society of Scotland president Susan Murray said: “It’s great being the first to sponsor a bauble for this year’s Baublefest. Our Christmas campaign changes lives and is the perfect way to kick off the season of giving. I hope to see huge numbers of the Society’s baubles being sponsored in support of what are very talented young people!”
The Christmas campaign will run until 23 December. You can find out more about Baublefest here.
