BBC programme reveals how science caught Highland killer
A new BBC programme explores how advances in forensic science helped police to solve a 1976 double-murder in the Highlands decades later.
Blood pattern analyst Chris Gannicliffe and soil specialist Professor Lorna Dawson were asked in the early 2000s to review the murder of Renee MacRae and her infant son Andrew.
Their findings led directly to the arrest of Renee’s married lover, Bill McDowell, and his conviction for both murders.
Expert Witness: Blood on the Carpet was originally broadcast in October and is now streaming on BBC iPlayer.
