Bilaal Shabbir joins Jersey Appointments Commission
Bilaal Shabbir has been appointed as a commissioner of the Jersey Appointments Commission.
The commission oversees the recruitment of Jersey States’ employees and appointees to states’ supported or related bodies to ensure selection is fair, efficient and conducted in accordance with best practice according to the Discrimination (Jersey) Law 2013.
The commission’s oversight extends to some judicial appointments, including chairs of various Jersey tribunals.
Mr Shabbir said on LinkedIn: “I am very excited to bring my knowledge and experience to the recruitment process to promote diversity, inclusion and fairness. I will continue to be based in Scotland whilst undertaking my responsibilities as commissioner and have been appointed for a three-year term.
“On a related note, I want to shout out to Naeema [Yaqoob Sajid] at Diversity+, who is working tirelessly (especially in the legal profession) in Scotland to remove barriers, improve diversity and promote equality. Naeema’s work is so important in showing why we cannot achieve diversity through tick-box exercises and why discussions on these tricky issues are crucial at every level of an organisation.”
