Black History Month Roundtable: Allyship – what does it really mean?
To mark Black History Month, the Scottish Young Lawyers’ Association is delighted to host an event this Thursday.
In line with the Black History Month theme of ‘Time for Change: Actions Not Words’, the event will examine what it means to build a culture of allyship within the Scottish legal profession.
It will take the form of roundtable discussion – a format that was deliberately selected in order to encourage open, honest discussion, between the panel members, and the audience.
SYLA will be joined by a fantastic line-up of panellists to consider the meaning of the word “allyship”, as it relates to the Scottish legal profession and how we can all be better allies to underrepresented groups, more specifically black and minority ethnic individuals. We will also explore the progress (if any) that the Scottish legal profession has made to improve allyship amongst colleagues.
The panellists are:
- Tatora Mukushi – solicitor and convenor of the Law Society of Scotland’s Racial Inclusion Group
- Rob Marrs – head of education and head of equality and diversity at the Law Society of Scotland
- Jamila Archibald – solicitor and European legal counsel at Trip.com
- Thembe McInnes – solicitor and managing lawyer at Dentons Helix
