Bloomsbury renews support for Lawscot Foundation bursary recipients
The Scottish law and tax publisher Bloomsbury has renewed its support of Lawscot Foundation bursary recipients by continuing its provision of textbooks for a third year.
Through the partnership the publishing house supplies each student who is accepted into the Lawscot Foundation programme with 18 textbooks required for their study of Scots law.
The books supplied would otherwise cost each recipient over £1,000 – adding to the other bursary benefits including an annual grant of £2,750, mentoring, networking and work experience opportunities.
Titles provided through Bloomsbury include The Scottish Legal System (Megan Dewart), Property, Trusts and Succession (George Gretton and Andrew Steven,) MacQueen and Thomson on Contract Law in Scotland, (Hector MacQueen) and Thomson’s Family Law in Scotland, (Katy MacFarlane).
Lawscot Foundation spokesperson Amber Shadle said: “We’re delighted to have Bloomsbury support the Lawscot Foundation for a third year. Their support truly makes a difference in our aim to help students from less-advantaged backgrounds achieve a career in law.
“In the past two years we have seen what a difference removing the expense of textbooks can make as this partnership ensures our students are set-up to start their studies with the best possible foundation.
“We are very grateful to Bloomsbury and our generous donors in the legal profession who without them we would not be able to carry out the invaluable work the Lawscot Foundation does to improve accessibility into the legal sector.”
Karen Reid, sales and marketing manager for Bloomsbury Professional Scotland, said: “We are delighted to support the Lawscot Foundation and its students by providing free textbooks throughout their four years of study. At Bloomsbury we want to be involved and support the communities and professions where our books play such an important role in terms of study. It’s great to be involved with such a worthwhile initiative.”
