Brodies lawyer raises over £5k for cancer charity
Brodies lawyer Duncan MacLean has raised over £5,000 for a prostate cancer charity by taking part in the Grand Départ Classic cycle race.
Mr MacLean, an experienced commercial litigator, rode the 125-mile first road stage of the 2017 Tour de France in June in memory of his dad and uncle, who both died from prostate cancer.
He completed the 125-mile journey in eight hours, 56 minutes and 53 seconds with an elevation gain of 3,921 feet, burning 5,424 calories, an overall average speed of 14 mph, and a top speed of 40 mph.
Most importantly, Mr MacLean smashed through his £5,000 fundraising target for Prostate Cancer UK, having raised £5,413 so far.
Writing on his crowdfunding page, he said: “Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. Every hour one man dies from prostate cancer – that’s more than 10,800 men every year. 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime. Ignoring prostate cancer won’t beat it.
“Prostate Cancer UK has a simple ambition – to stop men dying from prostate cancer. Through shifting the science over the next 10 years to focus on radical improvements in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and support, we will stop prostate cancer being a killer.”
