BTO solicitor advocate Tony Jones takes silk

BTO Solicitors’ Tony Jones (pictured), partner, solicitor advocate and head of the firm’s commercial dispute resolution team, has been made a QC.

Mr Jones is one of 14 new Queen’s Counsel, and the only solicitor advocate this week to take silk.

Since 1993, only four civil solicitor advocates have been granted the rank and dignity of Queen’s Counsel. Mr Jones is the fifth, representing a major achievement within the Scottish legal profession.

He qualified as a solicitor in 1991 and as a solicitor advocate with extended rights of audience in the Supreme Court, Privy Council and the Court of Session in 1999.

He specialises in construction disputes, professional negligence cases (he is an accredited specialist in professional negligence law), property and corporate disputes, as well as higher value reparation cases, including fatal claims.

Mr Jones said: “I am naturally delighted at this appointment. Since becoming a solicitor advocate in 1999, I have endeavoured to achieve and maintain the high ethical standards and the academic and advocacy expertise that members of the Faculty of Advocates have been delivering to the people of Scotland for centuries. I have no doubt that this appointment follows from that approach.”
