Calling all law students: Thompsons Solicitors' prize offers £1,000 and internship

Law students are being invited to apply for a £1,000 cash prize and internship at Thompsons Solicitors.

The Frank Maguire Memorial Award was set up in 2014 in memory of Frank Maguire, one of Scotland’s foremost campaigning solicitors.

Described by The Herald as the “champion of the rights of shipyard worker and trade unions”, he was no stranger to fighting for justice.

He represented victims of the Piper Alpha disaster, miners during the miners’ strike, victims of asbestos-related conditions and haemophiliacs infected with Hepatitis C and HIV.

This year, Thompsons Solicitors invites law students to write a blog post on a current topic or issue of their choice, inspired by the work of Frank.

Entries should be between 500 and 800 words long. The winning post, along with a number of runners-up will feature on the Thompsons blog.

Students may find it beneficial to read some of the blogs by the team at Thompsons which can be found at thompsons-scotland.co.uk/blog.

Entries should be submitted by email to awards@thompsons-scotland.co.uk.

The closing date for entries is Friday 19th October and the winner will be announced at 3pm on Monday 29th October on our Facebook and Twitter accounts.
