At this event, Stephen Foster of Grant Thornton, will consider:

  • other recent developments
    • Structures & Buildings Allowances
    • Transactions
    • Case law

Stephen is an associate director in Grant Thornton’s tax depreciation (capital allowances) team, based in Edinburgh, and is a chartered accountant. He began his training in PwC’s corporate tax team in 2007, and started working on capital allowances projects in c. 2009. He undertakes detailed analysis of construction costs and their treatment for tax purposes, mainly for expenditure incurred in open tax years, but he also often reviews expenditure originally treated as non-qualifying in closed tax years.

Stephen also advises on negotiations of the contents of s198 Capital Allowances Act 2001 agreements, clauses in sale and purchase agreements (which can allocate responsibilities between vendors and purchasers) and the completion of section 32 of the CPSE checklist, when clients are buying or selling properties in the context of seeking to agree transfer of capital allowances.

Stephen has extensive recent involvement in projects in the energy sector, as well as advising clients in the manufacturing, retail, leisure and accommodation sectors.
