Cat MacQueen appointed as ad hoc advocate depute
Arnot Manderson Advocates’ Cat MacQueen has been appointed by the Crown Office as an ad hoc advocate depute.
Ms MacQueen called to the bar in 2021 as the recipient of the Lord Reid scholarship. Prior to calling, she was a procurator fiscal depute with the Crown Office, having completed her traineeship there.
She has already prosecuted a wide variety of criminal cases and has considerable experience in handling complex cases and in leading evidence from child and vulnerable witnesses.
Since calling, Ms MacQueen has been instructed in a range of criminal appeals and fatal accident inquiries, and in relation to the Covid inquiry. She has also acted on behalf of both the Crown and defence in a number of criminal cases, and in the areas of public law, personal injury, and clinical negligence.
Ad hoc advocate deputes are instructed by the Crown to prosecute cases in the High Court and to represent His Majesty’s Advocate in appeal cases and other matters.
Arnot Manderson practice manager Andrew Sutherland said: “The stable is rightfully proud to have so many of its counsel available to represent the Crown in the highest criminal courts in the land.
“These important appointments reflect the strength and depth of the stable both in criminal and civil law. I’m particularly pleased that Cat is able to act for the Crown in the most serious of cases but also remains available for the varied civil instructions she attracts and indeed for criminal defence work.”
