Christine O’Neill re-elected Chairman of Brodies
Christine O’Neill has been unanimously re-elected by her partners to serve a second consecutive term as chairman of Brodies LLP. First elected to the position in 2013, Ms O’Neill will chair Brodies’ board and partnership and work with managing partner, Bill Drummond, to guide the firm through the next three years.
In chairing the board, Ms O’Neill has been closely involved with the firm’s business planning and governance over the past three years.
As chairman, she has represented the partnership, within Brodies and externally, communicating the firm’s values, upholding professional standards and supporting the well-being of her colleagues.
Ms O’Neill continues to play a leading role in the firm’s public law and regulatory team, which she founded and led until she was first elected chairman. She is regarded as one of Scotland’s leading legal experts in constitutional matters, advising clients on the further powers being devolved to the Scottish Parliament, and on the potential implications of the upcoming referendum on the UK’s membership of the EU as well as leading Brodies’ contribution to the wider referendum debate on constitutional matters.
She acts for and against a range of public bodies and regulators and is the only solicitor advocate in Scotland to be appointed to act as standing junior to the Scottish government, having been instructed on behalf of the Lord Advocate in a series of high profile cases.
She is, uniquely in Scotland, named as a “Star Individual” in administrative and public law by the Chambers & Partners independent legal directory and is also ranked top tier for parliamentary and public affairs work.
Bill Drummond, managing partner of Brodies, said: “During her 16 years at Brodies, Christine has shown herself to be an outstanding lawyer, great colleague and terrific role model for the modern legal marketplace. Her unanimous re-election by the Partnership demonstrates just how highly we value her contribution as chairman.
“At Brodies we expect our partners to lead from the front on client service and in her work for a wide section of our client base Christine has epitomised that client-first approach.”
He added: “Our board, the wider partnership and I are very pleased that we can look forward to continuing to work with Christine as our chairman in our enduring project to enhance the service we provide to clients.
“Christine’s professionalism and the high regard in which she is held within our business and amongst our clients and our connections with leading law firms around the world will, we hope, ensure we stay true to the Brodies’ values that have served our clients well for so many years.”
