Clinical negligence appointment at Shoosmiths Edinburgh office

Shoosmiths LLP is continuing to develop its presence in Scotland with a new lateral hire appointed to its Edinburgh office.

Derek Couper joins Access Legal Solicitors, the private client arm of Shoosmiths LLP, as a solicitor. Previously a solicitor with Plexus Law in Edinburgh, Mr Couper has been appointed to the Scottish clinical negligence team with responsibility for advising individuals and their families on a range of complex legal matters.Judy Williamson, senior associate and head of clinical negligence in Scotland, said: “Access Legal Solicitors is continuing to develop its market presence in Scotland… I am very pleased that Derek has been appointed as a solicitor in Edinburgh to take forward the interests of our clients.”

In his new position Mr Couper will progress a wide range of diverse cases across clinical negligence, including long term disability cases, delay in cancer diagnoses cases and actions arising from birth injuries affecting mothers and children.

He has represented clients in sheriff courts across Scotland and brings with him considerable experience in dealing with actions arising from orthopaedic injury.

He said: “I am excited to be joining a team with such a strong reputation in the Scottish market, and look forward to achieving the best possible results for each of our clients’.”
