Cloch Solicitors welcomes intern through Glasgow University exchange programme
Cloch Solicitors has welcomed postgraduate law student Nur Ben-Hamida to the firm as part of its University of Glasgow LLM exchange programme.
Ms Ben-Hamida from Kendal, who joins the firm for a week, is passionate about international property and the digital environment, particularly the challenges and opportunities created by the Internet.
For her undergraduate LLB at the University of Westminster, she investigated live performance bootlegging and evaluated global legislation pertaining to performers’ rights and copyright.
For her postgraduate, her academic dissertation seeks to examine copyright, freedom of expression, political discourse, and fandom.
She is working closely at Cloch with its managing director, Philip Hannay.
Ms Ben-Hamida told Scottish Legal News: “I’m really excited and happy about this internship; I am not making tea and coffee or doing simple admin duties like many other interns seem to find themselves doing for other firms.
“On the first day, I sat with Philip and discussed the areas of law I am most interested in, and he assigned case work in relation to that, for me to complete during my time here, giving me valuable hands on experience and knowledge I couldn’t have got anywhere else.
“The team are incredibly helpful, taking the time to explain practice procedures and case history when I need, but also allowing me to work on my own initiative.
“Everyone has been incredibly forthcoming; I’ve gained advice on working within the industry, life as a lawyer, etc. and reflected on my work with Philip, who also gives precious insight into legal practice and how to adapt theoretical understanding of concepts and principals into assisting real-life clients.”
She added: “I’m so happy to have been given the opportunity to work at an amazing firm, and believe this experience to be the starting point into my future career.
“It may only be a week, but what I have learned will stay with me forever.”
