CMS raises over £13,000 for Women’s work charity

A group of colleagues from international law firm CMS put their best foot forward last month to raise over £13,000 for charity.

Throughout March, more than 60 staff from the firm’s Edinburgh office participated in the Step Up for Smartworks challenge, walking an average of 10,000 steps per day. This included participation at a series of weekend events organised by CMS held at the Forth Road Bridge, Musselburgh Lagoons, and Redbridge Viaduct in Melrose. The firm also organised lunch time walks across the city while some particiants achieved their steps taking part in weekend Fun Runs held across Edinburgh.

The CMS fund-raising contributed towards a total of £103,000 raised by the month-long campaign for the charity Smartworks. The funds will further support its aim of providing free interview-appropriate clothing and interview preparation support to women who are unemployed or on a zero-hours contract.

Over the course of the Step Up for Smartworks challenge, participants completed 197,221,782 steps. CMS’s Elaine Piggot, a Senior Professional Support Lawyer in its Edinburgh office, was also named the Step Up individual champion after she completed a phenomenal 1,030,001 steps over the month.

Sian Aitken, a partner at CMS who also took part in the Step Up for Smartworks challenge, said: “We’re really delighted to support Smartworks, a charity that is committed to helping women in the work place. Their important work across the UK supports many disenfranchised women by giving them greater confidence to help them reach their full potential and change the trajectory of their lives through employment.”
