Conference in honour of Professor George Gretton
On 1 December 2017 an all-day conference will be held in Edinburgh to celebrate the career of Professor Emeritus George Gretton. The conference will also mark the publication of A J M Steven, R G Anderson and J MacLeod (eds), Nothing so Practical as a Good Theory: Festschrift for George L Gretton (Edinburgh, Avizandum Publishing, 2017).
Professor Gretton’s contribution to private law scholarship in Scotland and internationally has been profound. He has authored or co-authored more than 150 books, chapters and articles. He is particularly known for his work on commercial law, conveyancing, property law, and trusts and succession law. Professor Gretton served in the Edinburgh Law School for 35 years and is held in great affection by his former students. He is well-known to the legal profession, particularly for his annual conveyancing roadshow with Professor Kenneth Reid.
The speakers at the conference will include Alan Barr; Professor Alexandra Braun; Professor Eric Clive; Judge Elizabeth Cooke; Professor Hector MacQueen, the Hon Lady Wolffe; the Lord Advocate, the Rt Hon James Wolffe QC; and Professor Reinhard Zimmermann. Professor Gretton will conclude the proceedings with a reflection on his career.
The conference will be held under the auspices of the Edinburgh Centre for Private Law and will take place at The Mackenzie Building, High Street, Edinburgh by kind permission of the Dean of the Faculty of Advocates. It is being generously supported by the Faculty, the Clark Foundation for Legal Education, Millar & Bryce and DUAL Asset Underwriting.
