CPS to take ‘no further action’ against Prince Philip over car crash
Prince Philip will not face criminal charges for a crash last month in Norfolk that saw his car overturn and a two women injured.
Prosecutors said that “no further action should be taken against a driver involved in a collision on the A149 at Sandringham”.
The decision comes after the Duke of Edinburgh, who is 97, voluntarily surrendered his driving licence.
He claimed he was blinded by the low sun as he pulled out of a road by the Queen’s Sandringham estate
His Land Rover crashed into a Kia, resulting in injuries to two women.
Chris Long, chief prosecutor at the Crown Prosecution Service for the east of England, said: “We took into account all of the circumstances in this case, including the level of culpability, the age of the driver and the surrender of the driving licence.”
He added: “We have decided that it would not be in the public interest to prosecute. All those involved in the collision have been informed and provided with a full explanation in writing.”
