Crimestoppers trustee not trusted
A former treasurer for the Scottish Conservative Party and trustee of charity Crimestoppers has been banned from holding the directorship of any company for five and a half years.
Malcolm Scott 52, has been made subject to a bankruptcy restriction order by Edinburgh Sheriff Court after it emerged he lied during bankruptcy investigations.
Mr Scott was found to have sold items which he pretended had been stolen, while failing to declare assets including a speedboat, a valuable wine collection, and property in the Bahamas worth £200,000.
The Accountant in Bankruptcy (AiB) investigation into his 2012 bankruptcy found that Mr Scott had repeatedly lied to his bankruptcy trustee, Blair Nimmo of KPMG, in order to protect his assets.
The restrictions mean he cannot be a company director for five and a half years, and he will be required to disclose his status to a credit provider when seeking credit of more than £500.
Richard Dennis, chief executive of AiB, said: “These restrictions are necessary to alert potential future creditors and employers to the inappropriate behaviour we have identified.”
