Cross justice initiative swaps courtroom for classroom
A cross justice initiative has taken the lessons of the courtroom into the classroom.
A sheriff principal and three lawyers provided a Q&A session using a virtual platform for secondary pupils in their local area.
The panel comprised Sheriff Principal Aisha Anwar; solicitor Matthew McGovern of New Generation Lawyers; Mark Lutton of Optimum Advocates; and procurator fiscal depute Mairi-Clare McMillan.
Sheriff Principal Anwar said: “At a time when work experience activities for pupils are severely restricted, we are working together in Hamilton to use the technology available to open up the classroom to new experiences. We are delighted to offer these pupils a glimpse into the legal world and hope that it will inspire some to consider a career in the law.”
Mr McGovern said: “New Generation Lawyers are a group of new and aspiring criminal lawyers aiming to represent the next generation of criminal practitioners.
“We are keen to encourage pupils and students to consider a career in criminal law and this event offers a fantastic opportunity for pupils to gain an insight into the criminal justice system. We are extremely encouraged by Sheriff Principal Anwar’s commitment to the next generation of criminal lawyers.”
