Dean of Faculty introduced to Court of Session
The newly-elected Dean of the Faculty of Advocates, Gordon Jackson QC, has been introduced formally to the Court of Session in a short ceremony.
Mr Jackson was presented to the Lord President, Lord Carloway, sitting with Lords Brodie and Bracadale, in the First Division courtroom.
The Lord President said: “Dean of Faculty, on behalf of the court it is not only my duty but my particular pleasure to congratulate you on this high honour which has been conferred upon you by the Faculty of Advocates.
“It is an honour which all recognise is amply justified by your professional attainments, particularly in the High Court, and your personal character, which has shown itself at recent Faculty conferences and other events.”
He added: “The court is confident that you will worthily maintain the high traditions and standards of advocacy and professional conduct of your office, and I can assure you that any representations which you make to us on behalf of the Faculty will always receive our closest attention.
“I now invite you to take your rightful seat as Dean of Faculty in accordance with immemorial custom in the centre of the bar.”
The ceremony was repeated in the Second Division courtroom, before Lady Smith and Lords Malcolm and McGhie.
