A criminal lawyer has been convicted of a drink-driving offence for the third time, the Daily Record reports.

Martha Rafferty, 58, who was accused of failing to provide specimens of breath on two occasions, pleaded guilty at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday.

Jennifer McLaren, prosecuting, said that Ms Rafferty appeared unsteady on her feet when spotted by officers in the car park of the town’s police station on Thursday.

The defence lawyer said she had consumed a medicine, Anbesol, that contains alcohol at 96 per cent proof, but twice refused to provide breath samples.

Her not guilty plea to a charge of driving without due care and attention was accepted. She is due to be sentenced in October.
