A dedicated team from the Edinburgh office of Dentons has successfully completed the LandAid SleepOut charity event at the Easter Road Stadium – home of venue sponsor Hibernian FC – raising essential funds to combat youth homelessness across the region.
Dentons Partners Linzi Hedalen, Philip Knight and senior associate Liam McCabe braved the cold on Thursday, February 27, joining over 1,300 property professionals from across the UK in spending a night outdoors to highlight the harsh realities faced by young people without stable accommodation.
The Dentons team surpassed their initial fundraising target of £750, with donations continuing to pour in following the event, and with the help of the Dentons charitable trust, they have so far raised £2,000.
In 2022/2023, nearly 136,000 young people in the UK approached their local councils as they were homeless or at risk of homelessness. The ongoing cost of living crisis has intensified these challenges, with support organisations reporting both a homelessness crisis and a mental health emergency among vulnerable young people.
Mr Knight said: “While one night outside cannot compare to the challenges faced by those experiencing homelessness, it has given us a glimpse into the daily reality encountered. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who supported our fundraising efforts, and we are pleased to contribute to LandAid’s incredible work.”
