Diverse speakers lined up for 10th World IP Day Conference

The Faculty of Advocates’ ever-popular World Intellectual Property Day Conference moves into double figures this year, and will have the theme: “Innovation – Improving Lives”.

As in previous years, the 10th conference is expected to be fully subscribed and those wishing to attend are urged to register soon to avoid disappointment.

The event is free, from 11:30am to 2pm on Tuesday, 2 May, in the Faculty’s Mackenzie Building, and will be chaired by Roisin Higgins QC, an IP law specialist, and Graeme McWilliams, legal counsel, Standard Life.

The Geneva-based World IP Organisation, which set up World IP Day in 2000, has suggested this year’s theme of “Innovation – Improving Lives”.

Speakers at the Faculty’s conference are, firstly, Dr Anne Moore, proteus project manager and Nora Kellock, solicitor, both of Edinburgh University, who will talk on “Proteus – the fantastic voyage to revolutionary lung care”, and Mark Cruickshank, IP legal counsel, and Naresh Vyas, head of solutions, both from the Royal Bank of Scotland, who will discuss the IP challenges faced daily by the bank.

Ms Higgins said: “We are delighted that our event is now in its 10th year. Our speakers for 2017 are from two very different fields and we look forward to hearing their presentations and learning how they deal with the challenges and opportunities which IP rights present.”
