DLA Piper breaks English record with £3bn in revenue

DLA Piper has become the first English firm to record annual revenues of more than £3 billion.

The firm saw a 6.3 per cent increase in earnings in the past year, taking its revenue to £3.01bn – far head of its magic circle rivals.

The Lawyer found that the firm, which has long been near the top of the league table for UK law firm earnings, had posted a record figure.

Clifford Chance is its nearest rival, with annual revenue of £2.3bn – a rise of 11.5 per cent.

In total, five UK firms had earnings of more than £2bn in 2023-24. They are, in addition to DLA Piper and Clifford Chance, Allen & Overy, Linklaters and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

US rivals, however, have recorded significantly higher revenue figures. Chicago-based Kirkland & Ellis posted annual earnings of $7.2 billion (£5.5 billion) last year. Latham & Watkins’ revenue reached almost $5.7 billion (about £4.3 billion) in the same period.
