DLA Piper Scotland advises on hotel group purchase
DLA Piper has advised Leonardo Hotels on the acquisition of the five-strong Portland Hotels portfolio in Scotland for an undisclosed sum.
Berlin-based Leonardo bought the portfolio from Etchecan, increasing the company’s presence in Edinburgh and gaining sites in Glasgow, Perth and Aberdeen.
The newly acquired portfolio comprises 536 bedrooms and includes the 52-bedroom Edinburgh City hotel, the 111-bedroom Edinburgh Capital hotel, the 137-bedroom Glasgow Pond hotel, the 34-bedroom Huntingtower hotel in Perth and the 202-bedroom Speedbird Inn at Aberdeen Airport.
Steve Edgecombe, partner and co-head of DLA Piper’s UK Leisure and Hospitality group, said: “We are delighted to have represented Leonardo Hotels as they cement their position within Scotland’s hotel market. In the purchase of Portland Hotels, the group has aquired five well located and high quality assets in Scotland. We look forward to working with Leonardo as they go from strength to strength in the UK market.“
Daniel Roger, managing director of Leonardo Hotels Europe, added: “When we entered the market in the UK two years ago, we made it our goal to further expand our portfolio and strengthen the name recognition of the Leonardo Hotels brand.
“The purchase of Portland Hotels underscores this. I am convinced that our guests will love and appreciate this expansion of our offerings in key destinations across Scotland.”
