Dr Claire McDiarmid joins Scottish Law Commission homicide team
Dr Claire McDiarmid of Strathclyde University has joined the homicide team at the Scottish Law Commission.
Dr McDiarmid will work for several months as part of the team developing a Discussion Paper on the mental element of homicide. The homicide law reform project forms part of the Commission’s 10th Programme of Law Reform announced in February 2018.
The arrangement takes place under the Memorandum of Understanding between the Scottish Law Commission and the Scottish law schools agreed in 2016.
Lord Pentland, chairman of the Scottish Law Commission, said: “It gives me great pleasure to welcome Dr Claire McDiarmid to the commission’s project team on reform of homicide law. Claire is a distinguished scholar who has written extensively on the Scots law of homicide.
“We are delighted that she has agreed to assist us. I have no doubt that she will make a substantial contribution to our work. Claire’s work at the commission is another example of the success of the Memorandum of Understanding between the commission and the Scottish law schools.
“This facilitates collaborative working between the commission and the academic community, and assists academic colleagues in demonstrating that their work has practical impact.”
