Dreams of Peace & Freedom returns to the Fringe

Sir David Maxwell Fyfe at the Nuremberg Trials

The show performed by the family of the acclaimed Scottish lawyer who prosecuted Nazi chiefs at Nuremberg returns to the Fringe this year.

Dreams of Peace & Freedom tells the story of David Maxwell Fyfe in his own words and those of the songs and places that inspired him. It is the brainchild of Fyfe’s grandson, Tom Blackmore, a theatre director.

Fyfe, who was born in Aberdeen and raised in Edinburgh, was instrumental in the creation of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR).

The family will also be hosting evening discussions conjuring the spirit of Allan Ramsay’s 1720s Easy Club. Three themes dominate: exploration, freedom and justice. The Eazy Club meets every night for conversation and controversy at 8.00pm between 2 – 27 August at Venue 21, C Aquila at the top of the Royal Mile.

Performances of Dreams of Peace & Freedom – reviewed in Scottish Legal News last year – are at 6.30pm on the 17, 19, 24 and 26 August at Venue 6, C Aurora, on Lauriston Street.
