Dundee law student awarded bursary by Blackadders
A student at Dundee Law School has been awarded the Ken Scott Bursary by Blackadders.
Mumotaz Hossain, who is undertaking the Diploma in Legal Practice at Dundee, was presented with the £250 bursary and a tablet to support her studies by Blackadders’ chairman Scott Williamson and head of commercial property Emma Gray.
Ms Hossain said: “I’m well aware of Ken Scott’s contribution to the legal sector in Scotland and in particular his work with Dundee Law School, so receiving the bursary set up as his legacy is a tremendous privilege.
“I have no doubt that, combined with my studies to date, it will be of great use in helping me to complete my Diploma and take the next step towards a successful career in law.”
The Ken Scott Bursary, which is administered by Blackadders, was set up after his death in October 2013 and is awarded on the basis of financial need.
Mr Scott, who lived in Carnoustie, was born in 1961 and was educated at the University of Dundee. He qualified with LLB (Hons) and DipLP in 1984 and was admitted as a solicitor in Scotland in 1985.
Following his training at Thornton Dickie & Brand, he became a solicitor at North East Fife District Council before moving to Edinburgh to join the Bank of Scotland’s legal team. In 1990 he became an associate with Pagan Osborne Grace & Calders before joining Blackadders in 1994.
Mr Scott spent 19 years as an associate at Blackadders, working in the commercial property unit. He also spent many years as course organiser and tutor on the Company & Commercial Course in the Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Dundee.
