Dunlop pledges to represent Wings Over Scotland over Twitter ban

Roddy Dunlop KC

Dean of Faculty, Roddy Dunlop KC, has said he will represent pro-independence blogger Wings Over Scotland on a no win, no fee basis after he was banned from Twitter just 10 days after being readmitted to the platform.

Responding to an appeal to raise funds for Wings Over Scotland, which is the persona of Stuart Campbell, he tweeted: “If he’s been banned on the basis of what I’ve seen — which is nothing — crowdfund only for solicitors costs: I’ll do it no win, no fee.”

Mr Campbell, who was banned for evading a ban even though Twitter reinstated his account, returned to the platform recently after having been banned for almost three years for insulting a journalist.

He tweeted upon his return: “Well hello again. We apologise for the interruption in service, which was due to circumstances beyond our control.”

His pinned tweet, from December 12, 2019, six days before he was suspended, reads: “Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows. See also: ‘women don’t have penises’.”

Of his latest dismissal he said: “The plot subsequently thickened as a procession of SNP types claimed to be responsible, all triumphantly waving completely different supposed offences, none of which we’ve heard anything about.

“Naturally we’ve inquired of Twitter what’s going on, and will update you as necessary. But to be honest with you, folks, if the SNP are this desperate to silence our voice, maybe it’s time we thought about returning for good.”
