Duncan McLean

The Brain Tumour Charity is very close to the heart of DWF Scotland real estate partner Iain McLean, who lost his twenty-year-old son Duncan  to a Grade 4 Glioblastoma brain tumour last year. Last year Iain completed a 100-mile coast-to-coast walk, raising over £11,000 to support both The Brain Tumour Charity and The Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.

Mr McLean said: “March is Brain Tumour Awareness Month and although brain tumours are the biggest cancer killers of people under 40, they receive less than two per cent of cancer research funding in the UK and survival rates haven’t improved for most tumour types over the past 20 years.

“This is why it is vitally important that we continue to support the great work of charities, such as The Brain Tumour Charity, in their research in to find more effective treatments for this disease.”

Charlotte Bradford, corporate, legacies & trusts manager at The Brain Tumour Charity, said: “We’re immensely grateful to the DWF Foundation, as we rely 100 per cent of voluntary donations, their grant will be critical in allowing us to achieve our ambitious research goals, improve the understanding of brain tumour diagnoses and facilitate the development of safe and effective treatments for patients.”

The DWF Foundation is a registered charity and was launched in 2015 with the aim of providing funds and resources to local communities. The foundation is underpinned by the firm’s core values, including to “be better together”, and supports charities and projects that tackle complex community issues across four pillars: homelessness, education, employability and health & wellbeing.
