Edinburgh charity celebrates 175th anniversary
EMMS International celebrates its 175 years anniversary this month and it has been doing so in style. It held the Big Birthday Ball which took place on 26 November in the Roxburghe Hotel. It was a fantastic event which raised over £30,000 for great causes in Malawi, Nepal and India including the building of a maternity ward as well as hospital beds for patients who currently sleep in rows on mats.
The funds raised will help hugely over the coming year to provide care to many thousands of people. In 2015 the charity helped 190,524 people, caring for mothers and their babies, providing palliative care and improving essential health services across those regions as well as in the UK.
Elaine Motion, chairman of Balfour+Manson and chair of the charity said: “It is absolutely humbling to see the generosity of many individuals and the commitment given by so many to teach, learn and give in many many ways. I am sure that it will continue to grow in strength and breadth to the benefit of many”
James Wells CEO of EMMS International added: “It was great to see many people supporting the work, especially lawyers and doctors, whose predecessors were instrumental in establishing EMMS here in Edinburgh 175 years ago.”
