Edinburgh Law School staff take to the stage at this year’s Fringe
This year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe will see staff at Edinburgh Law School take to the stage and Old College become one of the city’s hundreds of venues.
For the second year in a row, Dr Smita Kheria, senior lecturer in intellectual property law, will perform her show No copyright, no problem? as part of the Cabaret of Dangerous Ideas series.
The show explores whether copyright is necessary, what would happen without it, and who benefits and loses out. The show will take place on Wednesday 14 August at the Stand Comedy Club’s New Town Theatre.
On the theme of intellectual property, the law school will once again offer a professional development session for Fringe participants this year, helping creators and performers navigate copyright quandaries. The event is free to attend, but booking is recommended.
Also part of the Cabaret of Dangerous Ideas is O Sister, Where Art Thou?: a show in which bioethicist and co-director of the Mason Institute Sarah Chan, along with sperm donor Lee Baylis, discuss the ethics and legalities of egg and sperm donation.
For the duration of the festival you can also find the Scottish Feminist Judgments exhibition, Reimagining the Law from the Outside In, on display in the Quad Cafe at Old College.
The exhibition encourages direct public engagement, confrontation, and empathetic exploration of real legal cases through a gender-sensitive lens. It is free to visit and runs from tomorrow.
