Edinburgh man convicted after assaulting lawyer

Charles McGregor

An Edinburgh man who attacked a partner at Clyde & Co with a knife in an attempted robbery in April has been convicted of the attack, according to The Scotsman.

Civil law expert Charles McGregor told the High Court in Livingston that a man outside his law firm’s office had demanded his wallet before slashing him across the cheek with a knife.

The 5cm cut left the solicitor with a slight permanent disfigurement.

Mr McGregor and his colleague Colette Finnieston then attempted to follow his assailant and took photographs as the man boarded a bus.

CCTV footage from the bus was crucial in helping police make an arrest.

Paul Wright, 46, was accused of attempting to rob Mr McGregor and assaulting him to his injury and permanent disfigurement.

Mr Wright pled not guilty to all charges.

It took members of the jury less than an hour to return a majority guilty verdict. Sentencing has been deferred.
