Event: Private Enforcement of Competition Law

Frances Sim, general counsel at Restitution Ltd and Michael Upton, advocate, will be presenting a free seminar for the Scottish Competition Forum on Private Enforcement of Competition Law: Procedure & Funding at the Mackenzie Building on Thursday 1 February, from 4.30 to 6.30 p.m.

For many years the European Commission and the CMA have encouraged the use of competition law by private parties to bring their own cases in the courts; e.g., for interdicts or damages an unfair concerted practices or abuse of a dominant position.

But there are barriers to such use. The main obstacle is costs. Characteristically defenders have deeper pockets than possible pursuers. The seminar explores possible solutions.
