Faculty six named as NMC external counsel
A drive for greater involvement in the work of regulatory bodies has paid dividends for six members of the Faculty of Advocates who have become external counsel for the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
The NMC was an early target of the drive, with around 80 advocates signing up for specialist training aimed at offering representation to many nurses and midwives who appear on their own before disciplinary hearings.
Now, after undergoing further training by the NMC, the six have been named as external counsel. They are: David Cobb, Patricia Comiskey, Heather Carmichael, Safeena Rashid, Alyson Forbes and Anne Bennie.
One of the roles of external counsel is to be case presenters at NMC fitness to practice hearings in Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff and London.
