Faculty to perform Christmas carol concert this week
The Faculty of Advocates’ Choir will be performing its 20th consecutive Christmas carol concert this week, raising funds for the homeless.
The concert is in St Andrew’s and St George’s West Church, George Street, Edinburgh, on Friday, 11 December, and has an earlier than usual starting time of 6pm. Doors open at 5:30pm.
Admission is free but there will be a collection in aid of the Edinburgh City Mission. The choir has a long association with the charity for the homeless, and down the years has raised tens of thousands of pounds for its work.
The choir’s artistic director, advocate Ross Macfarlane, said: “Take a break from shopping, pop in on your way home from work or bring the children – it will be the perfect start to the evening, with lots of carols to sing and great readings.
“An added attraction this year will be the debut of the Faculty’s Flute Quartet, led by Anna Poole QC, and Ailsa Carmichael QC. The quartet will be playing arrangements of Christmas carols before the concert begins.”
The choir was founded in 1996 and has performed in venues including St Peter’s Basilica in Rome, St Mark’s Basilica in Venice, Notre Dame in Paris, and Off-Broadway in New York.
