Faculty welcomes visitors for Edinburgh Doors Open Day

Hundreds of people are expected to enjoy a taste of life in the Faculty of Advocates as part of Edinburgh Doors Open Day 2015.

During the summer, visitors to Parliament Hall have been able to read about the Faculty and the Library in the “Hidden Gem” exhibition in celebration of Parliament House.

And on Saturday, 26 September, they will have the chance to see inside the Library as it joins other buildings in the city and throughout Scotland in opening its doors to the public.

Timed tours for small groups, from 10:45am until 3:30pm, will take in the Playfair corridor, named after the Library’s designer, William Henry Playfair, as well as the law room, which was once a court and venue of the Burke and Hare trial.

Also, access will be given to the Laigh Hall, below Parliament Hall, where luminaries of the Scottish Enlightenment gathered and where the Library was housed during the 18th Century.

In keeping with the Doors Open theme of “Food & Drink”, a small exhibition will feature Faculty dinner cards and menus.

The tours have proved very popular in the past and visitors are advised to book a place on a tour as they arrive in Parliament House.
