Faculty’s Christmas collection brings ‘magical’ cheer to families
Members and staff of the Faculty of Advocates have been given heartfelt thanks for bringing “magical” Christmas cheer to vulnerable families.
For the third year, Maria Maguire QC has organised a collection of presents, treats and cash which were donated to the family support charity, Home-Start Glenrothes.
“Our families are just delighted, and so grateful,” said Janie Tydeman, of Home-Start Glenrothes.
“I have said it before, but the really good thing is knowing what Maria and the Faculty are doing, and being able to reassure families that we are going to be able to help them out. It takes the stress out of it for them.
“As we made our deliveries, there were tears from a number of people. One was a single dad of twins, who hadn’t known how he was going to cope with Christmas, and he was absolutely thrilled.
“We don’t know how to say thank you. If only those who have been so generous could see the look on people’s faces when they see the presents…it is magical. You really feel like Santa!
“What a wonderful gift to give to the people of Fife. A huge, huge thanks to everybody.”
Ms Maguire said that, once again, she had been moved by the generosity of members of Faculty, staff, family and friends, and solicitor colleagues, who had shown a real determination to make a difference to the lives of the families.
“The gifts were thoughtful, the donations generous and the spirit in which they were given was extremely supportive and sympathetic. We have even surpassed last year’s collection of gifts and also raised over £3,000 (before Gift Aid) which will be used to buy food and essentials,” she added.
“I am proud of this team effort by the Faculty and am so grateful to everyone who gave up their time to make this such a success.”
Over 2017, many Faculty members have made a difference for others. The Faculty has published a compilation of their good deeds.
