FAI into death of prisoner William Kirkwood concludes
The fatal accident inquiry into the death of William Kirkwood at HMP Grampian has found no precautions could have been taken to prevent the tragedy.
Mr Kirkwood, 50, died by hanging, “with no other significant injuries, and no significant natural disease found” on 29 April 2022.
Sheriff Robert McDonald made no recommendations in his determination.
He found that appropriate lifesaving efforts had been made and that no concerns had been raised about the deceased’s wellbeing. Nor was a suicide note left “and there is nothing to suggest why the deceased chose to end his life”.
