And finally… nuts about air rage

In South Korea prosecutors have recommended a three year jail term for a former Korea Air executive who was charged with endangering a flight following a tantrum she threw over some nuts. Yes, nuts.

Cho-Hyun-ah, daughter of Korean Air’s chairman, denied the four charges against her, defending her actions, on the final day in court, as a result of her devotion to work and that the cabin crew had erred in not adhering to procedure.

Ms Cho commanded the chief flight attendant off the plan in December last year following an argument which meant the plane had to return to JFK airport in New York.

She was described as acting like an “angry tiger” when she was served nuts in a bag as opposed to a dish.

Chief attendant Park Chang-jin said Ms Cho treated him and the other staff like “feudal slaves”.

Ms Cho admitted violence against one member of the cabin crew by pushing her and throwing something at her.

Trial judges are to announce their verdicts later this month.

Meanwhile, in the US, the grandson of the founder of the Hilton hotel chain was restrained on a flight after he said he would kill the flight crew and described other passengers as “peasants”.

Conrad Hilton III, 20, found himself in a Los Angeles court this week facing a charge of interfering with flight staff.

Mr Hilton, who faces 20 years in prison if convicted was released on $100,000 (£65,000) bail.

Court documents state that Mr Hilton was restrained by the flight crew on flight 269 from London to LA last July.

Mr Hilton complained about a fellow passenger who was “giving him the stink eye” and also that he was angry following a break up with a girlfriend.

He was confronted by the co-pilot after the smell of marijuana emanated from the toilet while he was using it. He is alleged to have then run to another toilet and smoked a cigarette before stuffing a paper towel in the smoke detector.

Court documents add that as attendants dealt with him he accused them of “taking the peasants’ side”.

He said he would: ” own anyone on this flight, they are peasants”.

In addition he allegedly said to the co-pilot: “If you wanna square up to me, bro, then bring it on and I will fight you.”

The criminal complaint adds that Mr Hilton shouted out that his career as a “model” would be “ruined” as the flight crew tackled him.

The affidavit also states that Mr Hilton threatened to kill some of the flight crew and is alleged to have said: “I could get you all fired in five minutes. I know your boss. My father will pay this out, he has done it before. Dad paid $300,000 last time.”

Eventually, he fell asleep and was handcuffed to his chair for the remainder of the seat.

Family lawyer Robert Shapiro said Mr Hilton may have been suffering from the after-effects of a sleeping pill.
