Fiscals to receive iPads for court work after successful pilot
Prosecutors in the sheriff and justice of the peace courts are to be given iPads after a £310,000 pilot scheme.
The scheme was trialled in Falkirk, Perth and Lerwick sheriff courts beginning in February 2013 – with the intention of rolling it out across Scotland that year.
Catherine Dyer, chief executive of the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) said at the time: “COPFS recognises the need for innovation and the use of new technologies.
“This latest development follows on previous successful initiatives using modern technology such as texting of witnesses.
“Prosecutors recognise the need to maximise our efficiency and reduce our carbon footprint.
“This pilot is expected to dramatically reduce the current need for huge amounts of paperwork, free up valuable staff time and further improve the security of our case information.”
The iPads feature an app developed specifically for the work of fiscals.
