FOI reveals dozens of police stations under threat of closure
Dozens of police stations could be closed as part of an estate review by the single force, BBC Scotland reports.
Police Scotland has compiled a list of buildings in 58 areas which may be closed as part of the review.
Properties in Ayr, Larkhall, Port Glasgow, Hawick, Leith and Carnoustie are among those whose future is under threat.
But some may be retained as Police Scotland noted that there was “no pre-determined outcome” to the consultation.
Shared offices may be used where others are deemed “surplus to requirements”.
The information only came to light following a freedom of information request by BBC Scotland and has resulted in accusations that there was no intention to inform local authorities.
Oliver Mundell MSP said he only learned about the suggestion that eight stations in Dumfries and Galloway could be closed because a constituent tipped him off.
“A local resident in my constituency found out by asking a surveyor at a local police station what they were doing,” he said.
“They were there surveying to find out how much it was worth.”
The national force said a number of properties were part of the early consultation process, which was not yet available to the public.
