Former Lord Lyon David Sellar
Former Lord Lyon David Sellar passed away on Saturday at the age of 77.
The distinguished legal historian read history at the University of Oxford and law at the University of Edinburgh before qualifying as a solicitor in 1966 and working as a legal assessor at the Scottish Land Court.
He joined the Faculty of Law at Edinburgh University in 1969 and taught Scots private law and legal history there for over three decades.
He was appointed Lord Lyon King of Arms in 2008 until his retirement in 2014 and, in 2016, was recognised with an honorary degree of Doctor of Laws from the University of Glasgow.
