Free online event to explore law and racial injustice

Dr Bharat Malkani

Dr Bharat Malkani will explore the connections between law and racial injustice at a free online event hosted by Aberdeen Law School as part of its Black History Month programme.

A senior lecturer at Cardiff University, Dr Malkani’s research lies at the intersection of human rights and criminal justice, with a particular focus on the death penalty, racism, and miscarriages of justice.

He is the author of Slavery and the Death Penalty: A Study in Abolition (Routledge, 2018) and is working on The Law of Racial Injustice, to be published with Bristol University Press in 2024.

He has worked with lawyers, charities, policymakers and international organisations, including the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

In 2022, Dr Malkani was appointed Deputy Chair of the Independent Oversight and Advisory Panel to the Criminal Justice Board of Wales, with a view to overseeing the implementation of the Anti-Racism Action Plan.

The Aberdeen Law School event will take place tomorrow, Wednesday 25 October, at 5pm. More information is available on the law school’s website.
