Life and legacy of Gallen & Co to be celebrated next year

Andrew Gallen

One of Glasgow’s busiest and best-known civil and criminal litigation firms is to be celebrated at an event next year.

Founded on 1 October 1975 by Andrew Gallen, the business became part of The Glasgow Law Practice at the end of October. All offices, staff and clients of Gallen and Co have been incorporated by The Glasgow Law Practice as part the merger.

While operating from a number of offices in the Glasgow area, the firm produced many well-known lawyers, including King’s Counsel, junior counsel, sheriffs, advocates depute and solicitor advocates – and was well respected in the west of Scotland and beyond.

To see the firm off with a bang, former partner Thomas Ross KC is organising a party to be held next March.

He said: “Andrew Gallen was scrupulously fair and professional and he set the standards that everybody coming after him had to follow. When you took your first steps in court you already had the respect of the sheriffs and the fiscals – you were a Gallen employee and Andrew held the trust of everybody.

“Many of us will be forever in his debt. But after almost 50 years in business we can’t let Gallen & Co go out with a whimper – we are going to have a party in Glasgow city centre on 21 March 2025. I appeal for all former employees – legal and non-legal – to contact me at TLRKC@benchmarkadvocates.co.uk so that we can include them in the celebrations.”
