Irmgard Furchne, 97, worked from June 1943 to April 1945 as a stenographer and typist at the Stutthof concentration camp, where around 65,000 people were killed, including 28,000 Jews.

After a trial in a juvenile court, reflecting her age at the time of the alleged crimes, Ms Furchne received a two-year suspended sentence, which was sought by prosecutors and is the longest possible sentence without imprisonment, DW reports.

She had denied the charge on the basis that she was unaware of the crimes taking place at the concentration camp.

German courts have convicted a number of former Nazi officials and state functionaries in recent years. In June, a 101-year-old former concentration camp guard was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.
