GCU students win inaugural Sheriff Principal’s Mooting Competition
Students Fiza Ali and Zara Tahir representing Glasgow Caledonian University were successful in the final of the inaugural Sheriff Principal’s Mooting Competition, hosted by the Royal Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow.
The competition was between the providers of legal education in Glasgow and open to second-year law students. In the semi-finals, GCU had won against Glasgow University, before Sheriff Reid, and City of Glasgow College had won against Strathclyde University, before Sheriff Mohan.
James P. Connolly, senior lecturer in law and master of moots at GCU, said: “The moot concerned foreseeability of damages and loss of opportunity. It was impressively argued by both teams, and it was a wonderful experience for the students to moot before the new Sheriff Principal in such a historic setting.”
