Glasgow council spends almost £250k on bin lorry FAI
Glasgow City Council spent almost £250,000 in legal fees over the course of the Fatal Accident Inquiry (FAI) into the Glasgow bin lorry crash.
Information released under Freedom of Information (FOI) legislation shows that the council spent £139,250 on counsel fees for the inquiry, where they were represented by Peter Gray QC .
Mr Gray, a leading practitioner in the fields of health and safety, environmental and corporate financial prosecutions, previously appeared for BP in the Super Puma helicopter crash inquiry.
There was another £43,447.86 spent by the council on in-house legal fees and a further £61,614.80 spent on external legal fees.
Harry Clarke, the driver who faced scrutiny over the course of the FAI, hired his own legal team and did not receive any legal aid to cover his costs.
