Glasgow law firm takes to the hills to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust
A team of ten intrepid fundraisers from the Glasgow office of sister law firms Irwin Mitchell and Ascent, has scaled the dizzy heights of The Cobbler near Loch Lomond, raising around £2,500 to support the Teenage Cancer Trust (Scotland).
The money was raised as part of the firm’s charity of the year programme, a nationwide initiative developed by the Irwin Mitchell Charities Foundation (IMCF). Established in 1997, IMCF is an independent registered charity set up by the firm which has donated more than £2 million to third sector organisations to date.
Teenage Cancer Trust (Scotland) was nominated by the Glasgow office as its charity of the year for 2019, in recognition of the vital work the charity performs supporting young people aged between 13 and 24 living with cancer.
The money raised will go towards creating world-class cancer services for young people in Scotland, as well as providing life-changing care and support so young people don’t have to face cancer alone.
Mark Higgins, regional managing partner at Irwin Mitchell’s Glasgow office, who formed part of the team said: “Our charity of the year initiative has always been something that our colleagues are very passionate about, and that is demonstrated by the fact that so many of us took part in this considerable challenge on what was one of the hottest days of the year.
“Most of the team had never done anything like this before, so showed great determination to get to the top of the 2,900ft Cobbler in such demanding conditions.
He added: “This event is just one of a host of activities running in our Glasgow office throughout the year to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Last year we raised over £6,500 for the Simon Community, so we’re aiming to beat that total.”
