Glass Charter Roundtable - The New Normal of Inclusion, Thu 3 Dec 2020

The Glass Network is hosting its first online Glass Charter roundtable on ‘The New Normal of Inclusion’ on Thursday 3 December 2020 at 5:30pm.

The event will be free and open to all, though legal professionals and students are especially encouraged to attend.

As we work from home more and our communities see less and less of one another, many can feel less visible or connected to the wider world.

The LGBT+ community has felt this particularly hard, with a study finding 69 per cent of LGBT+ respondents suffered depressive symptoms during lockdown, and 90 per cent experiencing homophobia or transphobia.

Safety is another major concern: more than a third of those living in homes are not open about their LGBT+ identity. Isolation is a significant and potentially dangerous situation to be in, demanding our attention to solve it.

With Pride events across the country cancelled, and the diverse LGBT+ community spread far apart, The Glass Network is hosting this online roundtable to discuss how law firms and universities in Scotland can support those working remotely and foster important community ties. In particular, the roundtable will discuss:

  • the experience of LGBT+ legal professionals in Scotland during lockdown;
  • how firms are cultivating inclusive working environments online for staff;
  • what the experiences of LGBT+ students are during this time;
  • what more the profession can do to support LGBT+ legal professionals and students.

The full panel includes:

  • Chris Rae (CMS Scotland)
  • Rupa Mooker (MacRoberts LLP)
  • Ross McKenzie (Addleshaw Goddard)
  • Guido Noto La Diega, PhD. (University of Stirling)
  • A representative from SEMLA

For those wishing to attend, they need to email theglassnetworksco@gmail.com for the necessary links.

Ahead of The Glass Charter roundtable event, the network is asking LGBT+ legal professionals and students to complete and anonymously submit Our Future Form to guide conversation and provide insight as to how The Glass Network can support the LGBT+ legal community.
